Our Favorite Garden and Patio Accessories

17th Mar 2017

Teak patio furniture goes with everything, so no matter what kinds of patio accessories you prefer, your style will show through.

Here are some of our favorite outdoor accessories and ideas for completing your look around your teak patio furniture.

Light It Up

Lighting up outdoor spaces used to be a real challenge. Not anymore. The market is being virtually flooded with new and creative solar and battery powered lighting options. Here are some of our favorites:

Solar and battery powered twinkle lights

  • Strings of solar powered twinkle lights add a magical touch to any outdoor space. Use them to achieve multiple different looks.
  • Hang blue, yellow or green twinkle lights in a tree or drape them over a bush and when the sun sets the fairies come out!
  • Add a tangle of lights to a clear or colored mason jar and place it on your teak side table. The ambient light will highlight your table’s natural beauty, and add just the right amount of light to your seating area--enough so drinks don’t get spilled, but the stars are still visible in the night sky.
  • Drape white solar-powered twinkle lights in rows over your fence, and you’ve got a waterfall of lights as a backdrop.

Glow in the Dark

Phosphorescent paint is amazing. It naturally charges during the day and lights up at night for between two and ten hours. However you choose to use it, it will complement your teak patio furniture and create a unique and festive look.

  • Paint the stones in the garden walkway and provide a path for people to wander and explore.
  • Outline garden beds with painted stones to add interest and spotlight your green thumb.
  • Paint jars and place them around the perimeter of your seating area.

Throw Some Shade

Be creative with creating shade for your patio. Your teak furniture is sturdy and stands up to anything, but adding a little shade to the situation means you’ll be able to go longer between cleaning and oiling your teak patio chairs, tables and accessories.

Of course, our first thoughts on shade go to our very own teak umbrellas. They are obviously a great choice. But if you’ve got several areas to cover, a little variety might be nice. Here are some tips.

  • Natural burlap rolls of Jute fabric are inexpensive and available in a multitude of widths and fabric opacity. Running fabric through the slats of a pergola or hanging it from a building or tree across a seating area is a fast, inexpensive way to get some shade. Choose a lighter weave to let a little extra light through, or a thick weave to create a shaded oasis.
  • Floating screens and panels make for contemporary outdoor roofs. Choose teak panels to continue the theme beyond just your furniture. Bamboo panels and woven fiber panels also work well. Try painting your woven panel a bright color to add some additional interest.
  • Sail shade systems are a great way to go too. Mix and match shapes and colors, and overlap shades for a modern and eye catching twist.

Bring in the Birds

Who wouldn’t want to relax in a comfy teak daybed and listen to the birds chirping as they drift off for a little afternoon siesta?

Bringing the birds around isn’t difficult. And you can do it in ways that add beauty and interest to your outdoor living space.

  • Simple, rustic wooden bird houses are beautiful, last for years, and can be mounted almost anywhere. Additionally, they provide your bird visitors with a seasonal or year-round home so you’ll have the added benefit of watching their bird family grow.
  • Birds really do love a bath. Adding a simple ceramic bird bath with a small motor to keep the water moving is a great option. They’ll be attracted by the sound of the bubbling and dripping water and will keep coming back to splash and frolic.
  • Add some bird favorites to your garden like sunflowers, dogwood, fountain grass or boxwood. Berries are always a big draw.
  • Last, but certainly not least, is the good old hummingbird feeder. Combine your hummingbird feeder with a birdbath and you’ll really be in for a show.

Set Up Some Laughs

We always say that teak patio furniture is for everyone and compliments any style. We mean it.

If your style trends toward the whimsical, we’ve got some garden and patio accessory ideas for you.

  • Topiaries - Traditional topiaries are certainly a great compliment to your teak patio furniture. But who says you have to be traditional? Lately we’ve seen topiaries made from succulents in the shapes of sea life and shaggy perennials trimmed to look like a scruffy pooch. Trimming topiaries into geometrical shapes, repeating patterns and even seemingly random shapes are all ways to take this traditional artform into new territory.
  • Garden Fairies - Go crazy with the garden fairies. Build them an elaborate miniature forest dwelling at the place where your patio meets your garden. Guests will be delighted when they stumble upon your humble fairy village.
  • Gnomes - Okay. Stay with us here. gnomes are kind of old school, but they’re still good for a laugh. And there is a surprising selection of gnomes to choose from these days. Are you a sports fan? Or maybe you are a fanatic follower of the zombie craze? Perhaps a connoisseur of the irreverent and cheeky? We guarantee you, there’s a gnome for that.
  • Collections - Are you a collector of a certain kind? Bring your collecting into the garden. Hippos, frogs, angels, horseshoes, pigs, bells—whatever you collect—have fun with it in the outdoors.

This is just the beginning. There is no end to how creative you can get with your outdoor space. Do whatever makes you smile. Whatever creative patio accessories you can think of, we’re certain that they’ll complement your teak patio furniture. Teak really does go with everything. That’s one of the reasons we’re so wild about teak.
