4 Decoration Tips

28th Oct 2016

One of the great things about furniture decoration is that there’s no single right way to do things. When one of our customers takes home a teak shower bench, there are numerous ways they can use it in a bathroom, steam room, pool area, or outdoor shower. Since people are inherently creative, we’d like to share 4 suggestions to get you started, then you can use these ideas as a foundation for your own unique style.

  1. When you’re moving into a new home, there’s a strong temptation to repaint, then bring your stuff in. We recommend doing it the other way around. Ideally, paint should complement your furniture and accessories. Plus, remember that there are hundreds of paint colors, and they all look a little different depending on the angle viewed and the lighting.
  2. If you’re on a budget, we have great news. You always want to try and resist overcrowding rooms with furniture. There’s no need to have a bunch of pieces jammed into one space. Instead, spend money on fewer pieces, but make sure the ones you buy are higher quality. They won’t have to compete for attention, and they’ll get noticed quickly.
  3. Artwork can be an amazing element when it comes to design. The trick is to hang it at the correct height. Art galleries and museums tend to hang art so the center, or midline, of the piece is approximately 57-60 inches from the floor. 57 inches is roughly the average human eye level. If you have soaring ceilings, it can be tempting to hang them higher. But hang them on a human scale, not an architectural scale.
  4. When you watch a movie, there are leading actors and supporting actors. The same is true for furniture and accessories. Create a focal point, like artwork in a living room or a headboard in the bedroom. Your other items will be secondary, and they don’t need to compete for attention and create chaos.
